Help the mermaids & Henley & Marlow River Action gather data, and do your bit towards cleaning up our waterways.
We mainly need water testing volunteers (but also need help in other areas) to help collect the data needed to challenge Thames Water, and present to policy makers so we can force change, and open up conversations. Data is the key to change. You will be trained, and given the tools to help, all we need you to do is give a little of your time to help protect our beautiful river Thames.

Dave is a successful entrepreneur and founder of HeathWallace, the first global digital agency dedicated to financial services. What began as a venture in the UK quickly expanded internationally, culminating in its acquisition by WPP.
With over 25 years of experience in digital transformation, his expertise lies in understanding the intersection between technology and the consumer. He is also a keen wild swimmer, leading him to set up the Henley and Marlow River Action Group, whose mission is to collect data on river quality on the Thames and use that data to campaign for change. He is a big believer in the latest technologies and brings his experience in helping transform the financial services industry to the water problem in the UK.
I have lived in Henley since 2000 and came to Henley due to my need to be near water and the airport. I was born in Blackpool “sand grown” as they say so my love of being close to water has followed me throughout my life and career.
I am a trained environmental scientist from over 35 years experience and this shaped my career working for various companies and travelling the world as a result hoping to make a difference to some part of the environment that got my attention. I often say I have been pretty much at the end of some dirty pipe somewhere in the world trying to make it better. With my citizen science volunteering work in Henley, I have gone back to my grass roots of being out in the field again – boots on the ground as a field engineer is where I have felt at home helping and working with people. I now get a chance to test some amazing technology to measure water quality. My “special powers” are an enjoyment of data and spreadsheets, the ability to read and understand a lot of legal text, a curious and sometimes mischievous mind and a good storyteller (years of presenting some otherwise dull PowerPoints). All of which can bring help to getting down into the issues of river water quality and the environment and making a difference.
I am a Fellow of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) and continue to support others into their environmental careers.
